MODERNISASI TRANSPORTASI: PEMBANGUNAN DAN REVITALISASI KERETA API DI SUMATERA BARAT

Abstract


The modernization of transportation in Europe was increasing the economic progress in the world, including colonizes in Netherlands- Indies. The exploitation by the government of Netherlands- Indies in farm and mining has impact for the economic grow European by Netherlands- Indies, include in west Sumatra. The other infrastructure has build by the government colony to support the fluency another economic activity was happen in this region.

Earlier with a find the best quality of the coal stone by H.W. de Grave in the range mountain Sawah Lunto of  Sijunjung in 1868 has a big impact for the developing program of the railway for accelerate the process of transportation from Sawahlunto to Emmahaven Port (Teluk Bayur). The mega project transportation of the railway the colonial government was bring west Sumatra in new era. The modernization for the appliances transportation has explode the changes social that awesome and influencing many aspect in colonial society in west Sumatra, particularly in social and economic life.

The existence of the railway as the transportation has up and down along with the changes economic and politic in Indonesia. The realization of the money tax in 1908, the railway competition with a car in earlier 20 centuries, economic depression in 1930, the world war, the liberty war (perang kemerdekaan) and decreasing the coal stone production has given the significant impact for the railway history in West Sumatra. The Railway has been entering the darks age, with the result that needed the revitalization and the consideration from the other side. How is the history as the transportation in West Sumatra will be explained inside this mini article. for that, there is another problem that will be explained; the First, how was the modernization of the railway transportation in west Sumatra? Secondly, how and what is the factor that causing the decrease of the railway transportation in west Sumatra, And thirdly how was the revitalization process of the railway doing in west Sumatra?
